Connecticut Pistol Carry Permit Instruction |
![]() |
A carry permit (pistol permit) is required to carry and purchase pistols/revolvers in Connecticut. A hunting license or carry permit will allow you to purchase any long gun in Connecticut without having to endure the state imposed waiting period. In order to get a State Permit to Carry you must first obtain a local permit. A local pistol permit/temporary state permit may be obtained from the police chief in the town in which you reside or maintain a place of business. The first step is the NRA Basic Pistol course.
The NRA Basic Pistol Course is required in
order to get your local carry permit.
The Goal of the NRA Basic Pistol course is
"to teach the basic knowledge,

Laws that
forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor
determined to commit crimes...
Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants;
they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides,
for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed
man.
